KANDLE - Green Initiative

 Herb Garden

KANDLE Dining’s concept of practicing “green” is quite simple.
We attempt to decrease our consumption of energy and resources thus playing an important role in our camps to reducing our environmental footprint.  We start each camp’s green program with a review of purchasing options.  From disposables to cleaning products we have available resources.  Along with these available products, we continue to educate our clients through information on process manufacturing, raw materials utilized, the emissions they release and the way they can be disposed of at the end of usefulness.

One of the first questions asked about “going green” is how do we know environmental claims of any product are true and where do we receive our information. In general, a product or program is regarded as green when it demonstrates a commitment to environmental priorities by offering recycled or biodegradable content, reducing harmful waste or overconsumption and/or using a program that protects our natural resources.  Listed below are agencies we use for reference and program updates:

Energy Star:  Energy Star is a joint program of the EPA and the DOE helping save money and protects the environment through energy-efficient products and practices.

EcoLogo:  EcoLogo is North America’s oldest and most recognized and respected certification of environmental leadership.

Green Seal:  Green Seal is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to safeguarding the environment.

BPI (Biodegradable Products Institute) This program is designed to certify and identify plastic and paper products that will biodegrade completely and safely when composted in a municipal or commercial facility.

As you can see, KANDLE Dining clients’ are given tools to make informed financial and educational decisions on the type of green program that best fits their camp.  We are continually researching new and improved programs and products for future consideration. You can count on us as an important member of your “Green Team”.
